Now a political comment
PUTIN AND FREE SPEECH
Putin's government ousted one of Russian's most popular and controversial television news magazine host from a state-run television channel. Sergei Dorenko was cancelled from his show on ORT which is owned jointly by the Russian government 51% and Boris Berezovsky 49%. This signals to Russians and foreigners alike that criticism of Putin will not be allowed and that Berezovsky is on the descent in popularity and power.
BUSH CAMPAIGN NEEDS DIRECTION
The democrats have been successful in depicting Bush as unsure of his direction and Bush's campaign mistakes have only served to help his rival. It remains to be seen if Bush's handlers can secure an election win for the Republicans.
Next our commentary with our commentator George Butler
CASTRO CHEERED IN HARLEM
Castro was wildly cheered dressed in his olive green military uniform by an audience at Riverside Church in New York City. His Saturday speech was widely reported by the press. The audience shouted Fidel, Fidel, Fidel over and over as they were in adulation of his every word. Cuban Solidarity groups who also sang happy birthday to him in a belated recognition of his August birthday organized the 2,000-person audience. This warm welcome for this strong man and murderer of freedom fighters is tragic for America. For to give such a man this respect is to insult American Ideals and the masses of Cuban immigrants who chose to flee tyranny.
SADDAM CALLS UP RESERVES
Saddam Hussein was reported to have Lymph cancer on February 2, 1996 by the Jewish Bulletin. More recent articles appearing in western publications have confirmed that Hussein is suffering from cancer. The most ominous report by London's Arabic newspaper, Al-Quds Al-Arabi is that Hussein has called up his military reserves. This could function to maintain order after his death but also could be a last hurrah before his death against the west. Let's pray that Iraq will once again rejoin the community of nations as a less belligerent and peaceful nation. This concludes the commentary segment of our program now for my closing comments.
