AFGHANISTAN - QUAGMIRE

The recent assassination of Vice-President Haji Abdul Qadir signaled that their is a new phase in Afghan politics. This new phase was a loss of the only Pashtun in high office in the new Afghan government. The Pashtun ethnic group is beginning to feel left out of the new government and this will cause ripples through-out southeast Afghanistan. Qadir had walked out of the recent negotiations in Bonn, Germany because of his Pashtun loyalties, but would later rejoin the talks not wanting to be left out entirely. The power bases of Afghan society are still divided among the tribal system and in my opinion the tribal system will not be able to controlled by a centralized Afghan government. Guerilla attacks are increasing against American interests and I see no abatement of these attacks. So I believe that a point of diminishing return has been reached and I see increasing chaos and dangerous situations for American troops. The oil pipeline benefits will be divided up among the tribes and little benefit will accrue to any centralized government. In the end more radical muslim factions will eventually reassert their authority and all foreigners except those providing foreign aid will be out. The only reason that American soldiers might linger on is the danger of losing the pipeline deal if all American troops were ever ordered out.

The first "Know Thyself" was a saying used by Socrates to teach. This saying helps one to understand their own personality and character traits so that one might be able to reform those negative traits.

The second, "Know Thy Thoughts" denotes a process of being able to observe ones thoughts as they are unfolding and how those thoughts mold one's actions.

The third "Know Thy World" is a journey of discovery of worldly things. We should endeavor to discover those systems that control us through a systemized state of debasement.

In the end we must expose and reveal truth, so we might speak for freedom, a freedom built up by a belief in God, humbling oneself, bending thy knee to a higher power and redirecting of one's soul in a new direction where worldly things are unimportant and Godly things the only path, the only way, the only direction.
