Where Is The GOP In U.S. Congress?
By KEITH LOGGINS
Many of us vote Republican because we are conservative and we see the intrusion into our lives by the Clinton administration.
For the first time in 40 years we elected a Republican Senate to combat the ultra-liberal policies of this President. Lets look at a few things your conservative party has done..
The Republican party made a "promise" back in 1994. They said they would defund the National Endowment for the Arts. Thousands of people complained to the government that the NEA was funding pornographic and anti-religious "art" and the Republicans said they were going to do something about it. Well, 32 of our 56 Republican Senators voted to fund the NEA to the tune of $98 million. I wish I could be defunded so lavishly.
By a vote of 259 - 173, including many Republican, the House of Representatives voted not to revoke "Most Favored Nation" status for China. I thought MFN was there to stop human rights abuses in countries around the world. Let's see! China has a record of forced abortions, executing prisoners to harvest their body parts, killing baby girls because they are the wrong sex, and the oppression and murder of Christians and other religious groups.
Most of these Republicans are RINOs (Republican in name only). They want conservative Christians to vote with them on economic issues but are aghast that we want them to vote with us on moral and social issues.
Republicans sided with Democrats to grant Planned Parenthood $900 million Even Jesse Helms rolled over and let it be done.
Many good things have happened in the past year and I am encouraged but most of those things happened on the state and local level.
